B.Yellowtail joins forces with Sarah Eagle Heart to form SACREDx

Los Angeles, CA

February 28, 2017

LA-based Fashion Designer Bethany Yellowtail of byellowtail.com has joined forces with Sarah Eagle Heart, CEO of Native Americans in Philanthropy (NAP) to launch a social impact clothing brand called SACREDx.  The powerhouse duo are on a mission to dress the resistance, and bring indigenous voices back to the forefront.

Yellowtail and Eagle Heart’s first collaboration circled around producing a bandana for the Women’s March on Washington, and with overwhelming success the turquoise swath has rapidly grown to become a recognizable symbol for #IndigenousWomenRise. This quickly sparked an immediate call to action, leading to the development of a full-fledged clothing line of “resistance gear.”

The Phase 1 soft launch features three premium t-shirt styles, a hoodie, a silk scarf, and the infamous “Women Warrior” bandana.  The already iconic anchoring graphic depicts the women’s ‘Shoshone Warbonnet Dance,’ a ceremony performed by many plains tribes to recognize the young leaders of tribal nations.  It is the only time a woman is to wear the sacred warbonnet.

“Our Woman Warrior emblem is a representation of those that came before us and the next generations that will rise after us.  As the life-givers and protectors of this land, we have the generational knowledge to restore balance” proclaims Yellowtail.

This symbol signifies how many Indigenous tribes are matrilineal societies which means property belongs to the women, and women are highly involved in the decision-making process for the greater good of the tribe. In many tribes, women serve as strategists and communicators during battle. During this current movement period, Indigenous women have come together nationally through Indigenous Women Rise to organize in their communities and share knowledge of priority issues affecting indigenous peoples including:  Violence Against Women, Violence Against the Earth, and Access to Healthcare.

Ms. Eagle Heart states, “SACREDx represents the movement of all movements; we are joining Native peoples with all allies who are seeking what is just and right.  As the original resistors, we are still here and the wisdom of our ancestors must be heard, not just as an echo in history books and museum halls but as executors at the decision-making table.”

With each purchase, 10% of proceeds will be donated to SACREDx’s charitable and social impact partner, NAP (Native American in Philanthropy). NAP is a membership-based organization that promotes reciprocity and investment in, with and for Native peoples to build healthy and sustainable communities for all. NAP is supporting national native youth movement inspired by the activism at Standing Rock through #GenIndigenous Response Fund. NAP also supports long term investment in organizing, advocacy and civic engagement in American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities through Native Voices Rising.
